Introduction to Rescue Emergency Care (REC)
This course is for qualified leaders, where their course is about to run out.
This is a two-day course which has a minimum of l6 hours contact time. The Emergency First Aid Course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties in an outdoor and austere environment. The course is designed to be as practical as possible and provide participants with realistic and scenaios to equip them with the skills to effectively cope in an emergency situation.
The main components of the syllabus are:
- The fundamental workings of the body, in particular the heart, lungs and airways.
- Assessing a casualty in a comphrensive and systematic way.
- How to follow an accident procedure to cope with all incidents as safely as possible.
- Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident.
- Awareness of delayed medical help in adverse environmental conditions.
- Emergency: vital signs • emergency action • airway • unconscious • choking • bleeding•
- Breathing and circulation• CPR/ AED
- Environment: heat stress • cold stress • hot injuries • cold injuries
- lllness: chest pain• stroke• asthma • epilepsy • diabetes
- lnjury: head •spine• chest• abdomen • pclvis• bones• soft tissue • eye
- Rescue: transportation • communication
- Use of complimentary outdoor skill, to facilitate immediate, temporary care
- Emcrgency call out procedure for emergency services.
What to Bring
The course will take place both indoor, and outdoors. Please ensure to bring the following to ensure you are comfortable outdoors for long periods of time in the wet. This is not a carpet first aid course and participants will be outside regardless of conditions. A large percentage of time will be spent outside to put all learning into context for an outdoor emergency. Please ensure you have appropriate and sufficient warm clothing to stay comfortable outside regardless of weather conditions.
