Are you ready to stretch your legs, explore new trails, and meet like-minded walkers? During Walk Week 2025, organised by the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs, walking groups from all across Northern Ireland are opening their walks to new members – and you’re invited!

Are you ready to stretch your legs, explore new trails, and meet like-minded walkers? During Walk Week 2025, organised by the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs, walking groups from all across Northern Ireland are opening their walks to new members – and you’re invited!

Whether you fancy a forest park stroll or a more challenging mountain ramble, there’s a walk for you. This event is perfect for those with some walking experience and a moderate level of fitness who want to enjoy the great outdoors in good company.

Kilbroney Ramblers 

  • When: 10am (meeting at 9:30am)
  • Where: Leitrim Lodge, Co.Down
  • About this club:
    Formed in 2013 members of this club come from South Down, South Armagh area, specifically Rathfriland, Rostrevor, Warrenpoint, Newry. Some club members do travel from Belfast. This walking group is mainly for those aged 50+.
  • About the walk:
    The club offer two grades of walk the lower grade will mostly be on forest tracks and low-level mountain tracks (2hrs 50 mins) and the higher grade walk will require a higher fitness level and explore the high Mournes this walk will last approximately 4 hours.

Down Danderers 

  • When: 7pm – 9pm
  • Where: Tollymore Forest Park
  • About this club:
    Founded in 1989 this Ballynahinch based club is most suitable for women looking to get out as part of a friendly walking group. This club can be found frequently enjoying midweek walks. Monday Walks take place on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month throughout the year, these walks are 5 and 6 miles in length and the walkers are predominantly retired. Tuesday Evening Walks are arranged during the months April to early September, these walks vary in length from 3 to 7 miles. Saturday walks are held throughout the year on the 1st, 3rd or (5th) Saturday of each month . They vary in length from eight miles in winter to twelve miles in summer, numbers for these walks are usually smaller.
  • About the walk:
    This 2 hour walk through Tollymore Forest Park is the perfect way to get to know members of the Down Danderers. A basic level of fitness is required to take part in this walk.

Spartan Red Sox 

  • When: 10:30am – 2pm
  • Where: Glenariff Forest Park, Co. Antrim
  • About this club:
    Formed in 1979 Spartan Red Sox organise walks on both Wednesday’s and Saturday’s during the year. Walks are in different locations across Northern Ireland and so members come from different locations.
  • About the walk:
    This walk will explore Glenariff Forest Park. A moderate level of fitness is required as the walk will follow trails down into the glen before returning uphill to the car park.

Giant Steps Walking Group 

  • When: 7pm – 9pm
  • Where: Omagh from Crevenagh Road Car Park
  • About this club:
    Giant Steps Walking Group was setup for those wishing to walk for health and well-being. This friendly mixed group of people of all ages and based in the Omagh area and walk on both Thursdays and Saturday’s. Saturday walks typically take place across Northern Ireland and Donegal while Thursday evening walks remain close to Omagh.
  • About the walk:
    This evening walk will take place in Omagh Town starting from Crevenagh Road Car Park.

  • About this club:
    Giant Steps Walking Group was setup for those wishing to walk for health and well-being.   • Where: Broughshane, Co. Antrim (Meeting at Millbrook Park and Ride Larne)
  • About this club: This is a County Antrim based walking club.
  • About the walk: The club will be meeting at Millbrook Park and Ride, Larne and car sharing to Broughshane to begin their walk.

Gap o The North Hillwalking Club 

  • When: 10am – 3pm
  • Where: Cooleys (Round Mountain, Foyle’s Way)
  • About this club:
    This club walk every second Sunday starting from the Gap o’ the North pub in Jonesborough at 10am. There is a strong local focus on the Cooleys and the Ring of Gullion with occasional trips to the Mournes and further afield. As far as possible they try to combine each walk with some local knowledge of history or archaeological sites and interpretation of landscape to show farming and community development over the centuries.
  • About the walk:
    This walk will explore the Cooley’s (Round Mountain following Foyle’s Way). Walkers shoudl be able to walk for 4 hours at a medium pace. The meeting point for this walk is Gap O The North Pub.

Maine Hillwalking Club 

  • When: 1pm – 4pm
  • Where: Causeway Coast Way – Coastal Path from Portrush to Portstewart (Return)
  • About this club:
    A small club based in the Antrim, Ballymena, and Templepatrick area. The club walk on alternate Sundays throughout the year – usually in the afternoon although there are some day walks that take place in the summer months. Most walks are within an hours journey of Antrim. There is a strong social element to our walks often finishing a walk with a cup of tea or coffee.
  • About the walk:
    Meeting at Dhu Varren Train Station in Portrush this walk will follow the coastal path from Portrush to Portstewart before returning along the same trail back to Portrush. Club members are being encouraged to use public transport to reach this walk. A moderate level of fitness is required.

Fermanagh Ramblers and Hillwalkers 

  • When: 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Where: Benbulben, Co. Sligo (meeting in Enniskillen and car sharing to walk)
  • About this club:
    Founded in 1991 this club walk on Sundays throughout the year offering three different grades of walks. Grade 1– Generally flat walks lasting 2-3 hours e.g. forest tracks. Grade 2– Moderate hill walks less than 400 meters in altitude and roughly 3-4 hours long. Grade 3– Fairly difficult mountain hikes 400m+ in altitude, 5-6 hours duration requiring a good level of physical fitness. The club members meeting in Enniskillen and car share to the beginning of the walk. Walks are mostly in Fermanagh and the neighbouring counties of Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, however we also organise trips to other parts of Ireland as well as Scotland, Wales, Lake District and Europe. The club attracts new members who are active hill walkers but who also enjoy the social element of being in a Club along with the safety of walking in a group.  The club also welcome and encourage beginners or those with limited experience in hill walking.  All members are well supported so that they can enjoy the great outdoors.
    About the walk:
    This walk will take place at Benbulben in Co. Sligo. A good level of fitness is required to take place on this walk and ideally a walker should have hillwalking experience and be able to cover a longer distance.

Armagh Rambling Club 

  • When: 2pm departure from Armagh Place Car Park or 2:30pm at Loughbrickland Park and Ride Car Park.
  • Where: Loughbrickland
  • About this club:
    Formed in 1993, Armagh Rambling club welcomes a range of members from individuals to families. This friendly group of walkers always enjoy welcoming new members with membership varied both cross community and cross border. The club offer long walks on alternate Saturdays (4-5 hours) and shorter walks (2-2.5 hours) on alternate Sunday afternoons. The long walks vary from more strenuous/long ones in the mountains (4-5hrs) to more moderate ones (3-4hrs) in the mountains, forest parks and on country roads. The club meet at Armagh Palace gates car park and depart at 9.00am for Saturday walks and 2.00pm for Sunday walks. Car Sharing can be arranged between members who are happy / comfortable to share & drive.
  • About the walk:
    This walk will explore the trails around Whyte’s Estate following tree-lined paths through woodland and open countryside. A basic level of fitness is required.

Sperrins Hillwalking Club 

  • When: 10:30am – 2:30pm
  • Where: Glenariff Forest Park, Co. Antrim
  • About this club:
    Formed in 1996, Sperrins Hillwalking Club have a mixed range of walkers meeting twice a month. Grade 1 walks for the fitter walker alternate with Grade 3 walks for those who prefer a more leisurely stroll. The club also alternatively offer Grade 2 walks – something in between!
  • About the walk:
    This walk will explore Glenariff Forest Park. A moderate level of fitness is required as the walk will follow trails down into the glen before returning uphill to the car park.
